So after a weird and winding story of connection through reddit, coworkers, and being in the right places at the right times- I made some rock climbing buddies. After a few failed attempts at getting our schedules to work, we were able to orchestrate an adventure up to Mt. Charleston. I was hesitant about climbing outdoors. I had tried bouldering outdoors and enjoyed it but top rope is a whole other level. The hike to the climb was a steady incline for almost an hour. Its truly breathtaking what Vegas can be like though if one is willing to make the trek. As exhausting as it can be, its wonderful. After scratches, bruises, and battling through brush, we made our way to Sesame Street. Some easy 5.6-5.8 climbs of about 70 feet or so.. something that wouldn’t scare me away completely.

I admit it here, I am converted to climbing outdoors mainly. I find top rope outdoors to be more natural and soothing than in the gym. I wasn’t concerned with which hold is next and being technically correct, it just felt smooth and I let my body guide me up. The climb was crimpy and sharp but the pain in my fingers energized me. Its not like climbing in a gym, climbing outside becomes real; the wind on your back, sounds in the air.

I decided to limit myself to using my old Minolta camera. I used Kodak Portra 160, Kodak Ektar 100, and Lomo 400 on a fixed 50mm.
