SO lets get this blogging started.

It has officially been one full week since I have left home in Michigan. Audrey and I started out on our road trip last week Saturday night and drove 2,250 miles across the country- with stops in Colorado and Vegas. Iowa and Nebraska are by far two of the most boring states in the continental (by the way). Once we reached Colorado there was a lot more to sight see. The mountains there took a toll on my car and now I am actually worried about the drive home when snow is added into the mix. Our shady hotel in Colorado in the oasis of the Grand Junction was at least a bit of a resting place for us. We had a good nights rest despite the (unconfirmed) blood on the wall and the nast’ stuff we found in Aud’s bed.

exploring.

Utah, Arizona, and Nevada were cool and all- but it was about 100 degrees while we were there. Maybe cool isn’t the best descriptive word in this scenario. But once we made it to Vegas we went WILD. Not really. We checked into our hotel, the Excalibur, and went to our room that had no tv, no internet, and nothing free. We were lucky to get towels. My mom soon explained to me this is how Vegas works…nothing is free. EXCEPT for when you are gambling at the slots they give you free drinks which Aud and I did NOT know until we left Vegas. Uncool. Despite the rough times and the indescribable pain I went through in leopard high heels- we got our Fat Tuesday tall novelty drinks from the Luxor. Vegas was fun but we weren’t on a Vegas vacation or maybe we would have went a little more crazy. We were on a mission to get to California.

Fat Tuesdays in Vegas were well worth the trip.

So we headed off in the desert morning heat to the west coast. We finally reached California on Tuesday at dinner time. I can’t tell you the relief I felt knowing we didn’t have to drive anymore. So we moved everything in yada, yada, yada- and called it my new home. Done & Done.

the digs.

The next couple of days while Aud was in town we went exploring to the beach, to the pool, and to attempt finding shopping. It seems like we were always about a block away from somewhere and we would turn around giving up, haha. On Friday I had to bring her to the airport- I cried, she didn’t. So after dropping her off at the airport I couldn’t decide what to do in San Diego. Still unfamiliar with the place, I drove around aimlessly skipping out on shopping or the park. To cheer myself up I just went to the beach in Encinitas.

Saturday was my first day waking up alone in my brand new house. I felt I should take advantage of the sun again and opted for the beach. Too bad for Aud that I found the PERFECT beach to go to now. Not so much about the soft sand as it is about the views of copious amounts of surfers around. I was entertained to say the least. Later that night I drove down to San Diego to meet up with my friend Eric Mackey- met him through Invisible Children about a year ago. I love the San Diego night life, but too bad it is a 25 minute drive away. I am used to driving 5 minutes and being in the center of downtown. We headed to YogurtLand- a new crack-like addiction I have. Anyone who comes to visit me here will now be going to this amazing place. Then we went to a place called the Pink Bar. To people in Michigan, I would describe it as a Meanwhile bar but mixed with 80’s dance remix music. Hipsters dancing to Prince, I liked it.

Now it is Sunday, a week later. I can’t imagine not being here already. I firmly believe that the universe wanted me here at this point in time. A lot of different paths in my life would have, could have lead me here. Now I am here for Transworld and an amazing internship. I start tomorrow bright and early at 9:30am (that’s way better than 6:00am in the factory). But now I have to rush off to the store because I burnt the cookies I was going to bring to my neighbors bbq- and I don’t want to be the girl with the burnt cookies. Jus’ sayin’.
